
The 4th meeting of the Working Group on Energy between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of Hungary was held in a hybrid format at the Ministry of Energy.
Zaur Mammadov, co-chair of the Working Group and Chief of Staff of the Ministry of Energy, noted in his remarks that political relations between Azerbaijan and Hungary are at a high level and that reciprocal visits at the highest level contribute to the development of cooperation. It was stressed that the meetings held at various levels and the documents signed have contributed to cooperation in both conventional and green energy, and that the work done and the results achieved are ahead of plan.
The Hungarian co-chair, Izabella Feierabend, Head of the Energy and Climate Diplomacy Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, shared her views on the current state of cooperation within the Working Group and the steps to be taken this year.
The meeting heard a detailed report on the work done since the 3rd meeting of the Working Group, and presentations on oil and gas cooperation and on projects in renewable energy, energy regulation and energy efficiency. Matters arising from the natural gas supply contract concluded between the two countries’ energy companies in June of last year were reviewed, and interest was expressed in continuing discussions on medium- and long-term gas trade.
Reference was made to the outcomes of the ministerial meetings held to implement the Agreement on Strategic Partnership in the Field of Green Energy Development and Transmission between Azerbaijan, Georgia, Romania and Hungary, and it was noted that this cooperation platform contributes to the green agendas of both countries. The meeting also encouraged the continuation of reciprocal training courses and seminars between the countries’ regulatory authorities, and views were exchanged on sharing experience in energy efficiency and on managing energy efficiency funds.
At the end of the meeting, a Protocol on the outcomes of the 4th meeting of the Working Group on Energy was signed. It was decided that the next meeting of the Working Group would be held in Budapest next year.
