The Minister of Energy and the head of the Algerian delegation during their meeting

A meeting was held at the Ministry of Energy between Minister of Energy Parviz Shahbazov and a delegation led by Abdelbaset Gharbi, Chairman of the National Defence Committee of the People’s National Assembly of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria and head of the Algeria–Azerbaijan friendship group.

The meeting touched on the role of energy cooperation in developing the long-standing Azerbaijan–Algeria relations at a new stage. Satisfaction was expressed with cooperation within the OPEC+ and GECF formats, as well as between the two countries’ relevant ministries and between SOCAR and Sonatrach.

The importance of launching the Joint Working Group was stressed for further strengthening these ties, implementing the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the oil and gas sector between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, assessing mutual investment opportunities and realising the potential in the energy sector. It was noted that the first meeting of the Joint Working Group, planned for June as part of Baku Energy Week, would create opportunities for cooperation not only in oil and gas but also in renewable energy and energy efficiency. Other aspects of bilateral relations were also discussed.
